1:1 Paulus apostolus Iesu Christi per 1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by
voluntatem Dei et Timotheus frater the will of God, and Timothy our
ecclesiae Dei quae est Corinthi cum brother, unto the church of God which
sanctis omnibus qui sunt in universa is at Corinth, with all the saints
Achaia which are in all Achaia:

1:2 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre 2. Grace be to you and peace from God
nostro et Domino Iesu Christo our Father, and from the Lord Jesus
                                             Christ.

1:3 benedictus Deus et Pater Domini 3. Blessed be God, even the Father of
nostri Iesu Christi Pater our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
misericordiarum et Deus totius               mercies, and the God of all comfort;
consolationis

1:4 qui consolatur nos in omni 4. Who comforteth us in all our
tribulatione nostra ut possimus et ipsi tribulation, that we may be able to
consolari eos qui in omni pressura sunt comfort them which are in any trouble,
per exhortationem qua exhortamur et by the comfort wherewith we ourselves
ipsi a Deo are comforted of God.

1:5 quoniam sicut abundant passiones 5. For as the sufferings of Christ
Christi in nobis ita et per Christum abound in us, so our consolation also
abundat consolatio nostra aboundeth by Christ.

1:6 sive autem tribulamur pro vestra 6. And whether we be afflicted, it is
exhortatione et salute sive exhortamur for your consolation and salvation,
pro vestra exhortatione quae operatur which is effectual in the enduring of
in tolerantia earundem passionum quas the same sufferings which we also
et nos patimur suffer: or whether we be comforted, it
                                             is for your consolation and salvation.

1:7 et spes nostra firma pro vobis 7. And our hope of you is stedfast,
scientes quoniam sicut socii passionum knowing, that as ye are partakers of
estis sic eritis et consolationis the sufferings, so shall ye be also of
                                             the consolation.

1:8 non enim volumus ignorare vos 8. For we would not, brethren, have
fratres de tribulatione nostra quae you ignorant of our trouble which came
facta est in Asia quoniam supra modum to us in Asia, that we were pressed out
gravati sumus supra virtutem ita ut of measure, above strength, insomuch
taederet nos etiam vivere that we despaired even of life:

1:9 sed ipsi in nobis ipsis responsum 9. But we had the sentence of death in
mortis habuimus ut non simus fidentes ourselves, that we should not trust in
in nobis sed in Deo qui suscitat mortuos ourselves, but in God which raiseth the
                                             dead:

1:10 qui de tantis periculis eripuit 10. Who delivered us from so great a
nos et eruet in quem speramus quoniam death, and doth deliver: in whom we
et adhuc eripiet                             trust that he will yet deliver us;

1:11 adiuvantibus et vobis in oratione 11. Ye also helping together by prayer
pro nobis ut ex multis personis eius for us, that for the gift bestowed upon
quae in nobis est donationis per multos us by the means of many persons thanks
gratiae agantur pro nobis may be given by many on our behalf.

1:12 nam gloria nostra haec est 12. For our rejoicing is this, the
testimonium conscientiae nostrae quod testimony of our conscience, that in
in simplicitate et sinceritate Dei et simplicity and godly sincerity, not
non in sapientia carnali sed in gratia with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace
Dei conversati sumus in mundo of God, we have had our conversation in
abundantius autem ad vos the world, and more abundantly to
                                             you-ward.

1:13 non enim alia scribimus vobis 13. For we write none other things
quam quae legistis et cognoscitis spero unto you, than what ye read or
autem quod usque in finem cognoscetis acknowledge; and I trust ye shall
                                             acknowledge even to the end;

1:14 sicut et cognovistis nos ex parte 14. As also ye have acknowledged us in
quia gloria vestra sumus sicut et vos part, that we are your rejoicing, even
nostra in die Domini nostri Iesu Christi as ye also are our's in the day of the
                                             Lord Jesus.

1:15 et hac confidentia volui prius 15. And in this confidence I was
venire ad vos ut secundam gratiam minded to come unto you before, that ye
haberetis                                    might have a second benefit;

1:16 et per vos transire in Macedoniam 16. And to pass by you into Macedonia,
et iterum a Macedonia venire ad vos et and to come again out of Macedonia unto
a vobis deduci in Iudaeam you, and of you to be brought on my way
                                             toward Judaea.

1:17 cum hoc ergo voluissem numquid 17. When I therefore was thus minded,
levitate usus sum aut quae cogito did I use lightness? or the things that
secundum carnem cogito ut sit apud me I purpose, do I purpose according to
est et non the flesh, that with me there should be
                                             yea yea, and nay nay?

1:18 fidelis autem Deus quia sermo 18. But as God is true, our word
noster qui fit apud vos non est in illo toward you was not yea and nay.
est et non

1:19 Dei enim Filius Iesus Christus 19. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ,
qui in vobis per nos praedicatus est who was preached among you by us, even
per me et Silvanum et Timotheum non by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was
fuit est et non sed est in illo fuit not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

1:20 quotquot enim promissiones Dei 20. For all the promises of God in him
sunt in illo est ideo et per ipsum amen are yea, and in him Amen, unto the
Deo ad gloriam nostram glory of God by us.

1:21 qui autem confirmat nos vobiscum 21. Now he which stablisheth us with
in Christum et qui unxit nos Deus you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is
                                             God;

1:22 et qui signavit nos et dedit 22. Who hath also sealed us, and given
pignus Spiritus in cordibus nostris the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

1:23 ego autem testem Deum invoco in 23. Moreover I call God for a record
animam meam quod parcens vobis non veni upon my soul, that to spare you I came
ultra Corinthum not as yet unto Corinth.

1:24 non quia dominamur fidei vestrae 24. Not for that we have dominion over
sed adiutores sumus gaudii vestri nam your faith, but are helpers of your
fide stetistis joy: for by faith ye stand.
